The Hacienda at the River – Tucson, AZ

N

estled along the Rillito River in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills, The Hacienda at the River reimagines senior living as a place of connection, purpose, and restoration. This 7.5-acre campus blends Mission Revival architecture with the healing calm of the desert landscape. Courtyards, gardens, and shaded walkways encourage movement and reflection, while interiors balance comfort and dignity through natural textures, warm light, and intuitive wayfinding.

Goebel Design Group led a comprehensive renovation of all restaurant and common spaces, transforming the property through openness, cohesion, and authenticity. The design centered on expanding sightlines and unifying dining, lounge, and amenity areas to foster greater social connection and ease of movement. Polished concrete floors recall the look of traditional Saltillo tile while offering modern durability and sustainability, and custom inset rugs—drawn from Navajo weaving traditions—soften and define gathering zones. Clean architectural lines, curated native artwork, and layered lighting lend the interiors a stately yet welcoming tone.

The result is a community that feels refreshed, grounded, and distinctly of its place—a design that honors the desert’s serenity while inviting daily connection and renewal.
