Teresa’s Mosaic Café Fire Restoration & Interior Redesign – Tucson, AZ

A

Tucson institution since 1984, Teresa’s Mosaic Café has long been known for its Oaxacan and Sonoran dishes, colorful interiors, and the warmth of the Matias family’s hospitality. After a devastating attic fire caused extensive damage to the dining areas, Goebel Design Group was honored to lead the full interior restoration and redesign—helping bring a beloved local landmark back to life.

The project included the reconstruction and redesign of the main dining room, private dining room, central comal, and bar. GDG worked closely with the Matias family to preserve the restaurant’s distinctive spirit while introducing a sense of lightness and renewal. Custom cactus-themed wallpaper brightens the private dining space, and new decorative laser-cut panels reinterpret the café’s original bird motif. Mosaic tile tabletops and a handcrafted tile installation on the comal celebrate the restaurant’s name and heritage.

The refreshed interiors balance familiarity and freshness—honoring decades of community memories while inviting a new generation of Tucson diners to make their own. Teresa’s Mosaic Café now feels both timeless and reborn, full of color, craft, and heart.
